Made from Organic Cotton
Organic Cotton is a kinder choice
All of our Ducky Zebra clothes are made from soft, GOTS certified organic cotton. No harmful chemicals are used in the growing of organic cotton, and it emits up to 46% less greenhouse gases than non-organic.
With kindness at the heart of our brand, it was an easy decision. Organic Cotton is kinder to the environment, kinder to the farmers and kinder to our skin than conventional cotton.
Kinder to the environment
No nasty chemicals: Organic cotton farmers don’t use any harmful chemicals. Instead, they use natural methods to look after the soil and protect their crops.
Less water used: A staggering 91% less water is required for growing organic cotton compared to conventional. Organic cotton farmers use techniques to reduce water usage, including rainwater harvesting, looking after their soil and using seed varieties that are drought resistant.
Healthier soil: Sustainable farming practices such as crop rotation (i.e. alternating a cotton and vegetable crop) and composting are used to increase soil quality. When the soil is healthy it acts like a sponge, soaking up water and holding it for longer during droughts. This is great for the crops, and requires less water overall.
Kinder to the farmers
Organic cotton farmers receive a better price for their cotton. And by growing other crops alongside their cotton, they receive another source of income and greater stability. Plus, the avoidance of nasty chemicals reduces any possible health risks to them and to those that live nearby.
Kinder to our skin
Organic cotton feels softer and is more durable, as the fibres aren’t broken down by the chemicals used in the growing of conventional cotton. So, for the delicate skin of babies and children it’s the perfect choice.
Why do we use GOTS certified Organic Cotton?
We’re proud that our clothes are GOTS certified. GOTS stands for Global Organic Textile Standards and it’s regarded as the world’s leading certification for textiles made from organic fibres.
The GOTS certification checks the product is fully organic from start (at the farm) to finish. This includes the seeds used to grow the cotton, the process of harvesting, the use of raw materials, the manufacturing process, right through to the labels and packaging. Plus, unlike other certifications, it also includes important checks around the conditions and rights of the workers. In a complex industry, where supply chains aren’t always transparent, this level of rigour brings reassurance.
